International Contemporary Scenography Days Over 20 stage and set designers, architects and engineers shared their know-how and experience in art and technology for the performing arts to a packed auditorium of entertainment industry professionals.

The Guests: The work of architects and engineers is often closely associated with a specialist sector such as scenography, so we are delighted to announce the following keynote speakers: architect Brigitte Métra, an associate of Jean Nouvel, having collaborated with him on projects for over two decades, and founder of Métra+Associés studio, noted for the retrofitting of theatres, the converting of single rooms into multipurpose spaces and scenic installations. The architect, designer and scenographer, Roger Labeyrie, founder of "Labeyrie & Associés", a consultancy practice specialising in multimedia, audiovisuals and architectural design. He has collaborated with the studios of Renzo Piano, Valode & Pistre, David Chipperfield, JM Wilmotte, and IM Pei. The Milanese studio of Giancarlo Marzorati, who has worked on projects for shopping malls and residential complexes, and is particularly active in the auditoria and multiplex cinema sector, throughout the Lombardy region and beyond. The architect and video designer Luca Ruzza of Open Lab Company, a centre for experimentation, set production and virtual spaces, his works have been presented around the globe. The London-based Theatre Projects Consultants, a company specialising in theatre architecture, with over 1200 theatre projects constructed in various parts of the world. Mechanical engineering firms and leading firms in the stage machinery sector, such as Robert Heimbach, architect/engineer, vice president of Gala Systems and his Italian collaborator, mechanical engineer Ivano Cevasco. The architect and scenographer Jean-Guy Lecat, for 24 years the technical director and stage designer of Peter Brook, also active in the retrofitting of over 200 theatres worldwide. We will be looking at applications for the planning of theatre productions through the working experience of engineers (Giuseppe Dittadi), theatre directors and scenographers (Henning Brockhaus, Darko Petrovic, Daniele Paolin, Christian Silva, Lauro Crisman, Andrew Hays and Kimm Kovac) and software and hardware companies (Daxo, Autodesk, Adobe). Among the production managers and stage-managers taking to the podium: Massimo Checchetto (Teatro La Fenice, Venice), Michele Della Cioppa (Teatro dell’Opera di Roma), Saverio Santoliquido (Teatro Regio, Turin), Lucia Goj (Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris) and Daniele Rubboli, artistic director of the Accademia Lirica del Rotary International, professor of music history, theatre operator, director, author and conductor of theatre shows. And the production designers: Anxton Gomez (Pedro Almodovar), Hugues Tissandier (Luc Besson), Stephen Scott (Guillermo del Toro), Marco Dentici (Marco Bellocchio), Maurizio Sabatini (Giuseppe Tornatore), Christoph Kanter (Michael Haneke), Anastas Yanakyev (Stephan Komandarev).
The workshops A series of workshops on a broad range of topics covering sound, lighting and stage technology were also well attended.Themes included European health and safety standards applied to stage management and design; developments in LED lighting for the performing arts; design solutions for multi-use spaces; three-dimensional sound architecture; the concept, design and implementation of creative soundscapes for public and residential environments; D-EST® technology; the Riedel RockNet system for transmission of digital audio signals and data transfer; the Pandoras Box system as a creative tool for architectural video projections (of any form, dimension and surface), audio file synchronization, 3D animation elements and public entertainment events.
